Narration about Prophet feeding poor blind Jew unfounded

Question

Assalaamu alaykum, Shaykh. Please tell us about the authenticity of a naration about the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, feeding a blind Jew in a corner of a masjid in Al-Madinah. It spread massively here. May Allaah reward you well.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have not come across the hadeeth which you referred to in the question, and we did not find it in the resource books of the Sunnah that we have at hand, despite their abundant number.

People should be warned against spreading a hadeeth of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) without making sure about its authenticity.

Abu Qataadah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that he heard the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) say on the pulpit, "Beware of narrating too many ahaadeeth from me. Whoever attributes something to me, let him speak the truth faithfully, because whoever attributes to me to have said something that I did not say, then let him take his place in Hellfire." [Ahamad and Ad-Daarimi - Al-Albaani classified it as Saheeh (sound)]

It is permissible to give optional charity to a poor person even if he is a Jew or a Christian or any other person who follows a false religion.

Kash-shaaf Al-Qinaa’, which is one of the Hanbali books, reads:

It is permissible to give optional charity to a non-Muslim and to a rich person, and to others from Banu Haashim and others who were prevented from accepting zakaah, and they are permitted to take it (optional charity), as Allah says (what means): {And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive.} [Quran 76:8] At that time, the captives were only non-Muslims, and ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, clothed his polytheist brother with a garment which the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) had given him (to ‘Umar), and the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said to Asmaa’ bint Abi Bakr, may Allah be pleased with her, ‘Keep ties with your mother', who came to visit her while she (her mother) was a polytheist…

Allah knows best.
