Zakah on old gold and silver currencies

Question

Asalam Alikom Warahmat Allah Wabrakatoh 11 months ago I purchased 80 Gold Dinars from an action in London which are dated from the early years of Islam until the 132 of Hijra, And I also purchased in different times about 1000 Silver Dirhams, My first purchase was 1 year and 2 months ago of 100 Silver Dirhams; my second purchase was 900 Silver Dirhams, 10 months ago. Since I am very close to 1 year, my concern is should I pay Zakah for them and if yes how much. I coins are in very good condition. Please I need the sources of the Fatwa. I mean the Quran Sura and Aya number or the Hadith or both. Jazakom Allah Khair for all your efforts

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Since these antique currencies are either golden or silver, then you are obliged to pay Zakah on it every lunar year if it reaches the Nisaab (the minimum amount liable for Zakah) by itself or by other money or tradable items added to it after possessing it for one full lunar year.

For more benefit on the Nisaab on gold and silver, please refer to Fataawa 81332 and 86629.

Allaah Knows best.
