She doubts that she made Ghusl the right time after menstruation

Question

As-salaamu 3laikum, I was brought up by non-Muslim parents so I never learned how to check the end of my menstrual period. When I reverted to Islam I learned that it is necessary to do ghusl before praying after the end of the period but I used to think that the period ended when you didn't see any more blood coming out onto the sanitary towel. One time my friend mentioned something which made me think there was another way to check when the period finishes but I was too embarrassed to ask her and decided I would look it up myself. Now I am having doubts about the prayers and fasts I made in that time because it seems likely that I would have made ghusl before the period was really finished. Do I have to try and make up the prayers and fasts and if so how can I do it because I have no idea how long that time was, it was a long time ago and I don't really remember it apart from remembering that one conversation with my friend. Jazaak Allahu khair

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Doubts that occur about an act of worship after it is already performed do not affect its validity. Hence, you should disregard these doubts about the validity of your prayers, since the basic principle is that those prayers are valid.

We would like to point out that there are two signs of attaining purity from menstruation; either by the emission of a white discharge or complete dryness (i.e. the stopping of bleeding). Complete dryness is verified as the woman inserts a piece of cotton or cloth into her vagina and it comes out dry with no trace of blood on it or a yellowish or brownish discharge on it. As for the white discharge, it is a white fluid that comes out from the vagina marking the end of the menses. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 100850.

Allaah Knows best.
