Hair transplantation surgery to correct unsightly beard growth

Question

Asalaam alaikom warahmatollah, First I want to say that I ask Allah to grant you paradise for clearing alot of misconceptions via this website. My question is is it permissible to perform a beard transplantation where the hair of the head is transplanted to the cheeks in order to get a full beard. The reason why I ask this question is because I lack a lot of facial hair , so when I let my beard grow it looks really weird and unhygienic. This result in a lot of problems with my boss at work because I have to deal with customers for the business. So is it permissible in order to perform the sunnah I really want to follow. Hope to hear soon from you. Djazakka Allahu gairan.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

If you suffer from gross facial deformity that is very noticeable and apparently abnormal, there is no harm in undergoing this transplantation so as to restore the normal form of the face. This does not constitute a form of changing the creation of Allaah because it is removal of a defect and not changing the original form. This is deemed allowable as it has been reported that ‘Arfajah ibn As‘ad may Allaah be pleased with him had his nose damaged on the Day of Al-Kulaab. So, he got a nose of silver but it developed a stench. So, the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered him to get a nose made of gold. [Abu Daawood, At-Tirmithi, and An-Nasaa’i]

However, if it is not a gross and noticeable deformity and looks quite normal, rather, this transplantation surgery is done in the pursuit of beauty and not a treatment for a physical deformity or fault, this is impermissible and is considered the Devil's work. Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them [sinful] desires, and I will command them so they will slit the ears of cattle, and I will command them so they will change the creation of Allaah." And whoever takes Satan as an ally instead of Allaah has certainly sustained a clear loss.}[Quran 4:119]

Finally, you should not overburden yourself with regards to your job; verily, the land of Allaah is vast and His treasures and depositories [containing the provision] are full and are never empty. You should simply seek another means of earning a living if retaining your current job has become hard for you. Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {…And whoever fears Allaah - He will make for him a way out * And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allaah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allaah will accomplish His purpose. Allaah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.} [Quran 65:2-3]

Allaah Knows best.
