Question

Assalam 'alaykum wa rahmatullah, This narration is circulated on internet in Urdu language. Please suggest if it is authentic or not. Anyone who provides someone with milk or with silver or if he leads a blind then he will be rewarded for freeing one slave. [Ibn Hibban]

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and messenger.

This Hadeeth is authentic. It was narrated by Ahmad, At-Tirmithi, Ibn Hibbaan and others. According to the wording of Ibn Hibbaan, Al-Baraa’ ibn ‘Aazib may Allaah be pleased with them narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Whoever offers gifts of silver, provides someone with milk, or guides a wanderer to a road that he is missing, he will receive a reward equal to that for freeing a slave or saving a soul.”

At-Tirmithi said that this Hadeeth is Hasan (good) and authentic. Shaykh Al-Albaani classified it as authentic and Shu’ayb Al-Arnaa’oot said: “Its chain of narration is strong.” As for giving gifts of silver, At-Tirmithi said, “This statement refers to lending dirhams (i.e. money)...

Allaah Knows best.
