Acts that make one forbidden to Hell

Question

assalaamou'alaikoum I read a hadith saying that whoever prays 4 rakaat sunnat before Zohr and 4 rakaat sunnat after Zohr, Jahanam (Hell) will be forbidden to him/her (that is, Allah will prevent such person from entering Hell). Could you please research and let me know whether there are any other ahadith which says that Jahanam (Hell) will be forbidden (haram) to a believer when he or she does a specific action? Jazaak Allah Khair

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and messenger.

Umm Habeebah may Allaah be pleased with her narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Whoever prays four Rak’ahs before Thuhr and four Rak’ahs after it, Allaah will make him forbidden to Hell.” [At-Tirmithi]

Other Islamic texts were reported about those who perform other good deeds that would make them forbidden to Hell, among which are the following:

- Truly testifying the Testimony of Tawheed from one’s heart. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “There is no one who testifies that none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah truly from his heart, except that Allaah makes him forbidden to Hell.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

- Walking to perform acts of obedience, like going to Friday prayers and going for Jihaad in the cause of Allaah. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Whoever's feet are covered with dust because of fighting in the way of Allaah, He will make him forbidden to Hell.” [Al-Bukhari]

Al-Munaawi said in Faydh Al-Qadeer: “'feet are covered with dust' means that they are touched by dust or have dust on them, and it refers to walking; "in the way of Allaah", i.e. in the way where the pleasure of Allaah is sought. So the statement includes walking for the path of Jihaad (fighting in the way of Allaah), seeking knowledge, attending the congregational prayer, Hajj, and other matters. Although the indication is general, ‘the path of Allaah’ primarily refers to Jihaad.” [End of quote]

- Regularly performing the Fajr and ‘Asr prayers. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Anyone who prays before sunrise (Fajr) and before sunset (‘Asr) will not enter Hellfire.” [Muslim and others]

- Having good manners. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “The one who is humble, lenient, and easy will be forbidden to Hell.” [Al-Bayhaqi and Al-Haakim - Al-Albaani graded it as Saheeh (sound)]

- Crying out of fear of Allaah. the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “The Fire will not touch a man who weeps out of the fear of Allaah until the milk goes back into the udder.” [At-Tirmithi]

We ask Allaah to make us forbidden to the Hellfire.

Allaah Knows best.
