Innovators and heretics spread lies about Ibn Taymiyyah

Question

Salamu alaykum Why Shaykhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah spoked ill about Imam Ali, Abu Bakr, Umar Ibn Khattab, Fatimah and Huseyn radiallahu anhum, because i have read some sayings of Shaykhul Islam against these sahabas in a page of innovators? Is it true that scholars have called him Nasibi and that he was considered munafiq, like Shaykh Ibn Hajar Asqalani mentioned? May Allah reward you for your work.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Anyone who says such statements about Shaykh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him is either one of two things: ignorant or biased. His book Minhaaj as-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah is the book in which he has written most about Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Ali and Faatimah and the rest of the family of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam may Allaah be pleased with them all.

Anyone who accusses Shaykh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah of insulting one of these honorable, pious and innocent people, is either lying about him by attributing something to him that he did not originally say, or presenting a part of what he said to delude the reader into believing that such a statement is Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyah’s statement, while he had quoted it to refute it. This happens a lot from his enemies.

Allaah forbid that Ibn Hajar al-Asqalaani would describe Ibn Taymiyyah as a Naasibi or a hypocrite. However, he did cite in his book Ad-Durar Al-Kaaminah – which is a history book – under the biography of Ibn Taymiyyah some of the statements of Ibn Taymiyyah’s enemies, among which is what you mentioned. But after that he mentioned the statements of those who praised him, as if he was answering his enemies who made reprehensible statements against him.

Why did the person who quoted such statements from Ibn Hajar – which are not his own words as we have clarified – not mention the other statements of those who praised him? The answer is clear: he is a person with ill intentions and a disease in his heart, and he has no kind of scholastic integrity; so how can his knowledge be trusted, and how can one learn religion from him?

Usually, the innovators and the people of corrupt inclinations are accustomed to lying when they dispute, and they fabricate lies against their opponents. This is especially the habit of those who hold Taqiyyah (concealment) - which amounts to lies and hypocrisy - to be a religious rite by which they claim to seek the favor of Allaah, Lord of the Worlds.

Finally, it is worth noting that it is a great danger to visit the websites of innovators and heretics, especially for a person who is not well-grounded in religion, so you should be very careful.

Allaah Knows best.
