Greater Syria - the land of gathering at the end of time

Question

Is it true that the world will eventually be destroyed and only a fighting group will remain in Ash-Shaam?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

If the questioner means the gathering of people at the end of time to Ash-Shaam (greater Syria), then that is narrated on the authority of ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar may Allaah be pleased with him that he heard the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, say that people will head for the place to which Ibraaheem (Abraham) may Allaah exalt his mention migrated and only this will be at a time when wicked people whom Allaah hates will remain on earth. A fire will gather them along with monkeys and pigs, spending the night with them wherever they spend it and resting with them during the day if they rest, and it will consume anyone who lags behind. [Ahmad and Abu Daawood; Al-Albaani: (Dha‘eef (Weak))]

After mentioning the narrations about the emergence of the fire Ibn Katheer may Allaah have mercy upon him mentioned that they indicate that this gathering will be the gathering of people who exist at the points of the earth to the land of gathering, which is the land of Ash-Shaam.

Allaah Knows best.
