Stretching the legs towards someone reciting Quran

Question

As-salaamu 3laikum. When you finish prayer, can you recite the adhkar slowly and with a clear gap between them to make sure you pronounce them properly? And can you recite the Qur'an if someone else's feet are pointing in your direction? Jazaakum Allahu khairan

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is nothing wrong with pausing at the end of each Thikr (remembrance of Allaah) in order to reflect on its meaning or to make sure to pronounce it correctly, unless this leads to obsessive whispers. Hence, if such pausing is due to whispers, then one must abandon it and turn away from it, and he must recite Thikr in a natural manner without overburdening himself, because being carried away with whispers leads to great evil.

As regards reciting the Quran while someone's feet are pointing towards you, we do not know any evidence that prohibits it. However, if you are reciting from a Mus-haf and someone is stretching his legs towards the Mus-haf, then this act is disliked. Ibn Muflih said: “Ibn ‘Abdul Qawiyy said in his book Majma‘ Al-Bahrayn that it is forbidden to recline on the Mus-haf, on Hadeeth books or on anything on which the Quran is written according to the agreement of the scholars. This is similar to stretching one's feet to any of the above; and the Hanafis said it is disliked as they contain the Names of Allaah and it consists in poor conduct.” [End of quote]

Therefore, if someone is pointing his legs towards the Mus-haf, you should tell him not to do so out of honor for the Quran, or you may change your direction.

Allaah Knows best.
