Beware of unreliable Hadeeth books which promote religious innovations

Question

Is the following hadith authentic, and Can I quote it, that is mentioned in "Bihar al-Anwar", vol. 70, pg. 59 and narrated by Anas bin Malik (R.A.):“The prophet David (Hazrat Daood AS) asked God; ‘Oh God! All the emperors possess treasure then where is Your treasure ? God-Almighty replied: ‘I possess a treasure which is greater than the sky; vaster than the Heaven's firmaments; smells better than the perfumes of Paradise, and is beautiful than the Celestial Kingdom. Its earth is enlightenment; its sky is belief, its sun is enthusiasm; its moon is love, its stars are inspiration and attention towards Me; its clouds are reason, its rain is blessing, its fruits are obedience; and its yield is wisdom. My Treasure has four doors, the first one is the door of knowledge, the second one is the door of reason, the third one is the door of patience, and the fourth one is the door of contentment. Know that My Treasure is the heart of a believer (faithful) ".

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

We did not find this Hadeeth in any of the books available to us except in that book mentioned in the question and similar unreliable books which promote religious innovations. The fact that it is only cited in such books and not in any of the literature of the Ahl As-Sunnah Wal-Jamaaʻah is an indication of its weakness. Hence, it is impermissible to cite it as supportive evidence until it is known whether it has an acceptable origin.

We warn the dear questioner against reading such books that advocate religious innovations and whims. You are advised to refer to the reliable literature of Ahl As-Sunnah Wal-Jamaaʻah such as Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Saheeh Muslim, the other six major Sunan collections (Al-Kutub As-Sittah) and similar reliable Hadeeth references.

Allaah Knows best.
