Women not obliged to cover hair at all times

Question

salam. people say that if the woman's hair is seen no angel will come near. is it true? if so what about those angels who record our deeds? and does this mean that a woman should always cover her hair? even at home where there are no non mehrams?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His Slave and Messenger.

You should know that women do not have to cover their hair inside their house all the time, nor are they obliged to observe Hijab in the presence of their Mahram men. Rather, women are only obliged to cover their hair and observe Hijab in the presence of non-Mahrams.

Also, there is no evidence that the angels do not come near a woman whose hair is uncovered. In fact, women took off their Hijab inside their houses in the lifetime of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) as it has been reported that ‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her said,

I used to enter my quarters, in which the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and my father (Abu Bakr may Allaah be pleased with him) were buried and I would take off my garment, saying, "These are just my husband and my father." However, when ʻUmar was buried with them, by Allaah, I never entered it without my garment wrapped tightly around my body, out of modesty in the presence of ʻUmar may Allaah be pleased with him.” [Ahmad]
