Fatwa CenterDrinking Quranic water to gain wealth or wisdom
Question
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu. Nowadays, there are many Muslims that take part in the act of drinking written Quranic verses with the belief that they will become wealthy or attain wisdom or knowledge. Is it only okay for a sick person to drink this for health issues, or can anyone drink it for health purposes? Please, I want to know whether this act is permissible in Islam. Please put more emphasis on those that do this in order to accrue wealth. Thank you!
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
There is nothing wrong in reading the Quran and asking Allah with it, as the following was reported in a hadeeth, “Whoever recites the Quran, let him supplicate Allah with it.” [At-Tirmithi]
There is nothing wrong with reading Ruqyah (healing through Quranic recitation or supplication) on water for a patient to drink it; this Ruqyah consists of the person reciting verses of the Quran, Thikr (expressions of remembrance of Allah) and supplications, and then blowing in this water.
Ibn Muflih said, “Saalih ibn Imaam Ahmad said, 'There were times when I got sick, and my father would take a bowl of water, recite the Quran over it, and then he would tell me: Drink it, and wash your face and hands with it.'”
As regards drinking water on which the Quran was recited and believing that you might become rich or knowledgeable because of this, then we are not aware of any evidence for it, and we have not come across any scholar who spoke about it.
