Question
Assalaamu alaykum. I would love it if you could put forth your verdict on a phrase that people in my society use. It goes, “Even the devil shall speak of truth when he gets burdened.” And when one asks them why they say that, they support it by saying that the satan suggested Aaya'tul Kursi (verse 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah) to Abu Hurayra to recite that in order to prevent people from robbing you, and when he informed Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, about that, the Prophet said that he had indeed said the truth but that he was the devil. Also, I wish to know whether the devil which was referred to in that regarding hadith was a bad jinn, which are usually called devils, or Satan himself? And why did he do that? Is this phrase which people in my society use a good analogy?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
First of all, we have to tell you, dear Brother, that you have asked so many questions on our site; more than 350 questions; so we advise you to fear Allah and stop asking so many questions except in matters that will benefit you and lead you to do good deeds.
As regards your question, the Prophet described him as 'a devil', and that is enough to show that he is a devil (Satan).
There is nothing wrong with that statement which people say.
