Insulting Prophets amounts to Kufr

Question

What is the ruling onpeople who raise questions about the actions of Prophets and their wives or the Companions and their wives and swear at them for their actions? It may be any action of them; for example, Ibrahim's, may Allaah exalt his mention, abandoning wife and son in the desert, the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam, marrying a very young girl, and other actions. This is done by some people, which is why I am asking the question. Does this action turn a believer into a disbeliever?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Insulting the Prophets, defaming them, or mocking them is an act of Kufr (disbelief) according to the consensus of the scholars.

Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan said, “Likewise, if someone insults Allah or one of His Prophets, then he has indeed disbelieved.” For more benefit, please refer to fatwa 330349.

These acts that you mentioned and others were done by the Prophets by revelation from Allah, the Almighty; for instance, Ibraaheem (Abraham) may Allaah exalt his mention left his wife and son in Makkah by the commandment of Allah, and the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) married ‘Aa’ishah upon revelation from Allah.

So those who insult and despise the Prophets, may Allaah exalt his mention, must sincerely repent to Allah, and it should be clarified to them that by doing so, they go out of the fold of Islam – and we seek refuge in Allah from that.

Allah knows best.
