Seeking refuge with Allah from human devils

Question

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu, Shaykh. Can we seek refuge with Allah from the accursed devil with the intention of obtaining protection against both the jinni and human devils? Are human devils also accursed? May Allah reward you, Shaykh.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is prescribed to seek refuge with Allah from the human devils just as it is prescribed to seek refuge with Him from the jinni devils. The evidence is the verses that read (what means): {Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the retreating whisperer - who whispers (evil) into the breasts of mankind - from among the jinn and mankind.} [Quran 114:1-6]

Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him commented on the verses saying, “It is deduced from the last verse {From among the jinn and mankind.} that it is prescribed to seek refuge with Allah from the evils of the two kinds of devils: human devils and Jinn devils...

However, seeking refuge with Allah from the devils of mankind does not necessarily mean that the human being is cursed, unless he has committed sins that entail being cursed.

Allah knows best.
