Question resulting from OCD

Question

If there is an item/product that represents disbelief or has something related to disbelief written on it and I hold it or touch it, do I become responsible for it? Do I have to give it back to its owner? I mean something such as a Christian cross, or something else; what if I were holding a bag that has a bible in it and I give it back to the owner, knowing that it has a bible in it? Please give a detailed answer. Also, I suffer from OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder).

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

We ask Allah, the Exalted, to cure you from OCD and safeguard you from such satanic whisperings and bless you with perfect recovery. Verily, Allah, the Exalted, is the Healer. There is no healing but His Healing; a healing that will leave no ailment. You should keenly disregard these whisperings and mention Allah, the Exalted, frequently and seek refuge with Him whenever they occur to you; this is the best treatment for them.

You should also strive in supplicating Allah to bless you with perfect recovery and recite Ruqyah (healing through Quranic recitation and supplication), and hopefully Allah would make it a means for you to be cured of this affliction. Bear in mind that if you do not use the Shariah-approved means to overcome these whisperings, you would suffer greatly and may even end up losing your religion and your worldly life. We seek refuge with Allah for you from such a fate.

As for answering your question, it will not be of any benefit; rather, it may add to your confusion and make you get carried away even further down this destructive road.

Allah knows best.
