Commercial insurance prohibited - Reading Quran from different pages

Question

1) Is insurance permitted in Islam? I mean like to cover a car, house or factory.
2) Can I read the Quran from different parts, I have one Mus-haf (copy of the Quran) at home and one at the office, and I do not read them from the same page.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There are two kinds of insurance:

- Commercial insurance, which is prohibited, and it is impermissible for the Muslim to willingly partake in it. If it is mandatory, he is allowed to partake in it only within the extent of necessity. This is because the necessity must only be answered proportionately.

- Cooperative insurance; it is permissible and there is no harm in it, whether that be for a car, a house, or other. We have explained this in detail in fatwas 98857, 320428, and 82078.

As for your question about reading the Quran from two different parts, there is no harm in that. If, for instance, you read at home or in the masjid from one soorah and you read in the office from another soorah in another Mus-haf, then there is no harm in that, and you do not have to finish the soorah or continue reciting until you finish the whole Quran.

Allah knows best.
