Buying food from canteen that serves haram food

Question

Assalaamu alaykum. There is a program in my University that gives discounts to students who buy food from some canteens and use their own box or bottle instead of the plastic takeaway boxes. This is to reduce waste on the campus and preserve the environment. However, this includes canteens where haram food is served. Would it be impermissible to participate in such a project since it makes haram food easier to buy, even though the aim of the project is to reduce waste instead of promoting any of the food? Thank you.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is no harm on you to participate in this useful program, and nothing in what you mentioned prevents participating in it since it is intended for reducing waste rather than promoting a certain canteen or food.

Allah knows best.
