Question
Assalaamu alaykum. Could you kindly give me a direct answer to my previous question for peace of mind? I also want to ask: if I download multiple copies of a server application for testing and for my personal use, will I be sinning? Is it ok to follow the ruling that allows for personal use? Also, the software is very pricey, as it costs £500. May Allah reward you.

Assalaamu alaykum. My question is: I installed a 180-day evaluation edition of a Microsoft server but did not use the full 180 days. It may be against Microsoft's policy for me to download it again, but in my heart, as I did not use the full 180 days, I feel that I am entitled to do so. Will I be sinful if I go against their policy? Also, I know that some scholars say that you can use software, even it goes against the manufacturer's policy, for personal use, so is it ok for me to go with this view and use the software as I want? I look forward to your reply. May Allah reward you.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
If the company does not prevent the downloading of multiple copies of those programs and applications that are given for testing, then there is no harm and no sin in it.
As for the programs whose testing period have expired, then it is not permissible for you to download them, even if you have not used them in the specified period, because this is violating the company's rules. However, you may follow the scholars who are of the view that it is permissible to use copied programs for personal use as long as you are satisfied with the soundness of this view.
