Question
Assalamalaikom. I am planning to name by baby girl Asma. I would like to know the actual meaning of the name Asma as I am getting different meanings of different websites.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
The word Asmaa’ is derived from the word Al-wasaamah, which means beauty.
This is the opinion of Sibawayh, as stated in the Arabic dictionary Taaj Al-‘Aroos which is the explanation of the dictionary Al-Qaamoos.
Therefore, Asmaa’ is one of the good names and it is permissible for you to name your daughter with it.
This name is well-known amongst the Arabs. During the era of the Prophet some female companions were named with this name, such as Asmaa’ bint Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq, and Asmaa’ bint ‘Umays, who was the wife of Abu Bakr 
.
