Question
Is there any evidence that urges people to give more interest to sports?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Islam gives equal importance to the body and soul of human beings and encourages those sports that improve the mind or brain of a person and strengthen the body and provide him refreshment.
The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "A strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allah than a weak believer, and there is good in everyone."
The Hadith encourages anything that could be useful and beneficial for a believer in his faith, body, religion and in his life, he should try to gain it. However, all matters should be done with in the limits of Islamic Shariah.
It is reported from Umar (Radiya Allahu Anhu) that he used to order Muslims saying: 'Teach you children swimming, shooting and horse riding." It is also reported that he said: 'The best entertainment of a Muslim woman is spinning or wearing.'
