Eating testicles of a bull or sheep

Question

Is it permissible to eat "rocky mountains' oysters"? These are the testicles that have been cut off from a living bull or sheep.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

It is not permissible to eat what is cut from a live animal, be it testicles, or tails, etc. as the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "What is cut from a living animal is considered as dead meat." [Ahmad and Abu Daawood] The meaning is that whatever limb is cut from an animal while it is alive, is considered as dead meat and it is not permissible to eat it as Allaah says (interpretation of meaning): {Forbidden for you (for food) are the dead animals (cattle-beast not slaughtered)..}[5:3].

Allaah knows best.
