Talking while the Athaan is being called

Question

is there any hadith stating people should not talk while the adhaan is being said

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

The Sunnah is that a Muslim should listen to the 'Athaan (call to the prayer) attentively and repeat it after the person calling it, and should not talk or occupy himself with something else, even if it is the mention of Allaah or reciting the Quran. This is derived from the texts that order us to repeat the 'Athaan, yet we have not come across any specific narration which prohibits talking while the 'Athaan is being called.

Allaah Knows best.
