The ruling on wearing Niqaab during the state of Ihraam (ritual consecration)

Question

A woman went to perform ‘Umrah and wore a Niqaab while performing it. Is she required to do anything, noting that she is in another city now?

Fatwa

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Wearing Niqaab is one of the actions that are forbidden for women while in the state of Ihraam. Any woman who does this while knowing and remembering the relevant ruling must offer a Fidyah (i.e. compensation by slaughtering an animal and distributing it within the precincts of Makkah). However, the one who does it due to ignorance or forgetfulness is not required to do anything according to the preponderant opinion of scholars may Allah have mercy upon them.

Allah Knows best.
