Question

Assalamu-Aleykoom, I know that music is forbidden, but just as there is wine in heaven that is obviously superior to anything on earth, is there music in heaven?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have not come across an Islamic text proving the existence of music in Paradise. However, some Ahadeeth stated that the women of the people of Paradise sing to their husbands with nice singing voices.

For instance, Ibn ‘Umar may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “The wives of the people of Paradise will sing for their husbands in the sweetest voices that anyone has ever heard; among the things that they will sing is: We are the good and beautiful wives of noble people; we look at them (husbands) with delight in our eyes (i.e., with satisfaction).’ Another song will be, ‘We are eternal women who will never die; we are safe and will never feel fear; we are settled and will never leave (our husbands).” [At-Tabaraani, and Al-Albaani classified it as authentic]

Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him wrote a chapter in his book entitled Haadi Al-Arwaah ila Bilaad Al-Afraah about this subject. He wrote: Chapter Fifty Seven: The Sounds of Paradise and the Singing of the Hoor (women of Paradise) and the melodiousness and enjoyment that it involves… He mentioned a number of Ahadeeth about the singing of the Hoor and their beautiful voice.

Allah knows best.
