Using bathroom tiles which have drawings

Question:

We are trying to choose wall tiles for our bathrooms. Some of the tiles have drawings of flowers, shapes etc on them. Is it allowed in Islam to have tiles with designs on them or is it better to get plain ones.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

 

Pictures of non-living beings, like trees, flowers and rivers are permissible as we clarified in Fatwa 82040. Therefore, it is permissible for you to use the tiles that have flowers and other pictures of non-living beings.

Besides, we are not aware of any scholar who said that it is better to avoid the pictures that the Sharee’ah permitted us to use.
