Clothes getting wet with water when washing dishes

Question:

As-salamu aleikum, Please explain in detail about the obligation, desirability, or innecessity for females to cover the feet during prayer according to the different great scholars of Islam. I read different opinions about this issue and would like to know who has said what about it. Also, if I do housework in a certain dress, and some water spills on it while doing the dishes, can I still pray in that same dress? JazakAllahu khair

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The jurists may Allaah have mercy upon them differed in opinion about the ruling on a woman covering her feet when performing the prayer. The majority of the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them are of the view that it is an obligation for her to cover her feet, but the Hanafi School and some scholars of the Hanbali School are of the view that it is permissible for a woman to disclose her feet when performing the prayer. This is also the view of Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him and this is the preponderant opinion according to Shaykh Ibn Al-‘Uthaymeen may Allaah have mercy upon him.

However, the view that we adopt here in Islamweb is the view of the majority of the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them. For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 81924, 88563 and 82912.

On the other hand, it is permissible for you to pray in a dress that became wet with the soapy water when washing the dishes, as this water is pure and not impure.

In fact, asking this last question is a kind of whispering (from the devil), so we advise you to avoid asking such a question again.

Allaah Knows best.
