Question:

Assalamualaikum, I have many questions to ask, plz reply. (1)Is it permitted to print name of bride in marriage invitation card? (2)Can a husband request her wife to give the money of mahar in the way of Allah.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

There is no objection in Sharee‘ah to writing the bride's name on the invitation card. The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to mention ‘Aa’ishah and his other wives and daughters in the presence of the Companions may Allaah be pleased with them. When he, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was asked about the dearest of people to him, he said: "‘Aa’ishah.” [At-Tirmithi] Also, he, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said (on another occasion): “If Faatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, committed theft, I would cut off her hand.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

There is also no objection in Sharee‘ah to the husband asking his wife to spend her money in the Cause of Allaah, after which, she is free to choose to do so or not. In Islam, the woman has an independent financial liability as has previously been clarified in Fatwa 132055.

Allaah Knows best.
