Question:

Essalam alaykoum, I know that it is permissible to do istinja or istijmar or using water and paper in the same time. In fact, I want to know if when we have done istinja (with water) ant then, for example after 5 minutes, if we want to urinate or defecate again and if there is no water, it is permissible to do istijmar whereas the parts are still humids? Besides, I want to know if it is permissble to do istijmar to get rid of madhi or wadhi ? Barakallahou fikoum for your answers.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is nothing wrong with doing Istijmaar in the case mentioned in the question because the state of the private parts after answering the call of nature (for the second time) does not require the use of water in Istinjaa’. In fact, the impurity in such a case is only on the private parts and it can be easily removed by stones or any similar object. However, if the impurity becomes wet, when the person performs Istijmaar with wet toilet paper, for example, or the like, then Istinjaa’ with water is obligatory in such a case as some scholars underlined.

For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 90938.

As for Istijmaar in purification from Mathy, there is a well-known scholarly difference of opinion regarding that. The preferred opinion is that Istijmaar is permissible for anything that is emitted from the front or back passage of the private parts.

Allaah Knows best.
