Question:

For past one year, I have been working for an employer. The employer is a good man, but unable to run the company properly. I do not agree with the company policies and practices and in short i do not see any future here for myself. For some time now, I did my assigned work with all honesty and kept looking for other jobs as well. But now, i think due to the non-healthy culture of teh company, i am not able to give one hundred percent. Should i leave my employer and look for another job? because i can definatley not do my best here anymore. I am just worried about my niyyah. I have already decided that i do not want to work here and do not want to just stay here for the pay till i find something else. I have faith in Allah Rab ul Izzat that he will grant me something else. I just dont want to be unfair to my employer by using pay from him till i find something else. Please guide. Jazak Allah

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

If you carry out your duties according to the contract you have concluded with your employer, then the salary you receive is lawful for you even if you believe that your work is of no benefit to the company. You should do your job as per the contract and carry out all the required duties without taking into account the future of the company and the extent of its success.

There is no harm in seeking another job to work at when your employment contract expires or whenever your employer gives you the permission to leave your job before your contract expires.

Allaah Knows best.
