Question:

a male gynacologist told me that i can a normal delivary..but most of the female docters says that cesarian is preferable...the problum is that a non mahram man is the male doctor..what can i do?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The authority in such cases is whoever has the most experience and knowledge about medicine. It can be fairly said, though, that it is better to opt for normal delivery whenever possible. It is not advisable to opt for a cesarean section without need given the consequent harms incurred by it. For instance, a woman may be prevented from giving birth again if she goes through repeated deliveries of this kind.

It should be noted that the Islamic regulations pertaining to delivery must be observed; a female doctor should be given precedence to a male doctor and a Muslim female doctor should be given precedence to a non-Muslim one, as underlined in Fataawa 83987, 106803 and 85492.

Allaah Knows best.
