Wearing gold for men is forbidden both at home and during travel

Question:

I know gold is haram for men in islam but recently someone told me that during travelling gold is allowed to be worn by men so that they can use it in adversity. Plz tell what is correct according to islam?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is forbidden for a man to wear gold whether at home or during travel based on the general evidence about the prohibition, and no exception was made for traveling.

Just because one claims one might need it during travel does not make it permissible to wear it as it is possible for the traveler who believes that he will be in need of selling gold to take it with him without wearing it. However, some dissolute men who insist on wearing it even though they know that it is forbidden try to find excuses for their dissoluteness and disobedience.

Allaah Knows best.
