The soul of the dead never returns

Question:

Is it true that the soul of a slain person may return to the place where he was killed and his image appears there?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

The return of the soul of a person who was killed and the appearance of his or her image in the place where they were killed is a falsehood which has no supporting evidence, neither in the Sharee‘ah nor in logic.

It is narrated that the martyrs of the Battle of Uhud wished to return to this worldly life to be killed again for the sake of Allaah, but they were not granted that wish. Had such a return been possible, they would not have been prevented from this. On the authority of Jaabir may Allaah be pleased with him the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, told him that Allaah the Almighty resurrected Jaabir’s father, who was killed in the battle of Uhud,  talked to him and asked him to make a wish which would be fulfilled. He may Allaah be pleased with him asked Allaah to return him to the worldly life in order to be killed again in the cause of Allaah. Allaah the Almighty told him that He decreed on all creatures not to return to this worldly life after death. [At-Tirmithi; Al-Albaani: (Hasan: Sound)]

Allaah Knows best.
