How Nimrood died

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum dear Scholar. I want to know how Nimrod (the tyrant king in the period of Abraham, peace be upon him) died?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The books of Tafseer (interpretation of the Quran) and history reported that the death of Nimrood and his soldiers was caused by mosquitoes. Nimrood died because of a mosquito that entered into his nostrils and reached his brain, and this caused him to start hitting his head for a long time until he died.

The Tafseer of Muhammad al-Kittaani Al-Idreesi reads, Nimrood, the dictator and tyrant who considered himself to be god, the disbeliever, tried to inflict harm upon Ibraaheem (Abraham), but Allaah gave a sweeping victory to Ibraaheem as Allaah hit Nimrood and his people with the smallest and most despicable creation. He sent mosquitoes upon them; a mosquito would enter their ears, and then their nostrils, and it would keep moving until it reached their brain; as a result, they died.

Also, At-Tafseer Al-Waseet authored by Az-Zuhayli reads:

It was reported that when Ibraaheem may Allaah exalt his mention came out of the fire safe and sound, he was brought to Nimrood, and the latter spoke to him and declared his insistence on disbelief, and he said to Ibraaheem, 'O Ibraaheem, where are the soldiers of your Lord whom you claim?' Ibraaheem said to him, 'Allaah will show you the work of the weakest and most vulnerable of His soldiers;' so Allaah sent down a cloud of mosquitoes on Nimrood and his people, and the mosquitoes ate them all. A mosquito entered the head of Nimrood, and he had his head hit with sticks and the like, and he was tortured with this mosquito for so long, and he died because of it.

For more information on this tyrant with Ibraaheem may Allaah exalt his mention you may refer to Al-Bidaayah wan-Nihaayah authored by Ibn Katheer may Allaah have mercy upon him and other books.

Allaah knows best.
