Question:

Please comment on the verse: {And that it is He Who is the Lord of Sirius} [Quran 50:53]

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The meaning of the verse, as the outstanding Shaykh of Tafseer (exegesis) of the Quran, Imaam At-Tabari, said in his Tafseer Jaami’ Al-Bayaan fi Ta’weel Al-Quran: {And that it is He Who is the Lord of Sirius} [Quran 50:53];  “Allah, the Almighty, says, 'And your Lord, O Muhammad, is the Lord of Sirius;' meaning the Star that is called with this name; which is a star that some people in Jaahiliyyah (the Pre-Islamic Era of Ignorance) used to worship instead of Allah.

As-Sa'di said in his Tafseer, “Allah specifically named this star even though Allah is the Lord of everything, because this star was worshiped in Jaahiliyyah, so Allah informed us that what the polytheists used to worship is a creature that is run [by another power]; so how can it be taken as a god beside Allah.

Allah knows best.
