Taking Myers-Briggs personality test

Question:

Assalaamu alaykum. is there anything Islamically wrong with taking the Myers-Briggs personality test that psychologists suggest so that one can find his personality type and develop his unique traits?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We cannot issue a ruling on this matter – specifically – because this requires us to view its details. We are not able to do so because we are busy answering the many questions that we receive which are seeking answers to Islamic matters.

In general, if such analysis is based on scientific grounds – meaning that the analysis is based on scientific standards and inductive test methods designed to detect positive or negative personal inclinations by interviewing the person or observing some of his actions or declarations or behavior and feelings in different situations so that the results of this observation form indications that show the hidden personality of the person, which he can then be informed about and be guided as to the method of adjusting and treating his negative traits and developing and strengthening his positive traits – then there is nothing wrong with it.

The above statement is derived from an article by Dr. Fawz Kurdi entitled "Types of Personal Analysis," and it showed what is based on ignorance and illusions and what is based on scientific foundations.

Allah knows best.
