Wearing tampons (absorbant) during menses

Question:

Is it permitted for a woman to put on (Tampon) which is shaped like a finger absorbing material used for the women during their menses, because this is inserted inside unlike those worn like underwear?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

It is more appropriate to use other kinds of napkins that are not finger-like.  The Fuqaha discussed the issue of women inserting their fingers inside their vagina while cleaning themselves.  Some Fuqaha forbid that.  Khalil (a Maliki scholar) says: 'The woman should clean all the superficial surface of her private parts when in a sitting position and the woman should not insert her hand between the sides of her vagina as this is the deed of dissolute women.  Similarly, it is unlawful for both males and females to insert their fingers inside the anus.'

Ibn Muflih (a Hambali scholar) says: 'There are two opinions as regards cleaning what is inside the vagina, the most correct of which is that it is not necessary.  So, the woman should not insert her finger or hand inside her vagina.  She only cleans what is superficial.'

Jaafar, reported, 'When the woman makes Ghusl she does not insert her finger in her vagina….'

To conclude using such napkins is dislikable and may even be prohibited.

Allah knows best.
