Question:

My wife cheated on me twice. Every time she said I'm sorry; I would not do that, and start praying. I have 2 girls. I don't want them to be without mother. What is the opinion of shariah? By the way she cheated on me by an e-mail love letter to another man.

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

You have to advise your wife and remind her and frighten her with the punishment of Allah, the Most-High.  Allah is aware of what she does in the open or in secret.  She will be held accountable for the small and major sins.  You have to do your best and vary the methods and means of doing this.  Insha Allah, you will succeed.  Incite her to perform good actions and ways to get nearer to Allah.

The best of these good actions is to establish the prayers continually, to wear the Islamic Hijab, to lower the gaze, and to stay away from mixing with men, etc.. Allah Said in a sacred Hadith: "A person does not get nearer to Me with something that I love except with what I ordered him to do, and he keeps getting nearer to Me by performing supererogatory actions until I love him, and if I love him, I would be the sense of hearing by which he hears, his hand by which he touches and feels, his feet on which he walks, and if he asks Me, I will provide him, and if he seeks refuge in Me, I will protect him." [Reported by Bukhari]

Do not hasten to divorce her, as divorce should be the last solution.

And if you can prevent her from using the means by which she does what you have stated, then you can do so.

Allah knows best.
