Question:

I have done a mistake. I am having lots of problem in my life and few days back I was just lost. I lost the Faith in my prayers I contacted a psychic to ask about my problem. I was reading a book about faith and it stats that a person's prayer won't be accepted for forty nights who seek help from foreteller. What I did? Would you please guide me? I'm feeling guilty my prayers will be void for next forty days. Please pray for me.....that May Allah make me a true Muslim and make my belief in him Firm.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Going to a psychic is like going to fortune-tellers and magicians. We have previously issued a Fatwa ruling that it is forbidden to consult them, this may even be an act of disbelief, or a act of disobedience and a great major sin. As a result, the prayer of whoever goes to see them is not accepted for forty days.

Since you have repented from what you did, then we hope that Allaah will accept your repentance and forgive you. Allaah says (which means): {And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allaah will find Allaah Forgiving and Merciful.}[Qur'an 4:110]. Moreover, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said:  "Regretting means repenting." [Ahmad].

So whoever seeks Allaah's Forgiveness, and repents, Allaah will forgive him and accept his repentance as He is the Most-Merciful, the Most-Graceful.

Allaah knows best.
