Question:

I am 18-years, and my wedding is in another 2 days, and my Khatheeb already booked everything up, even the music, and I don't know what to do, I am trying not to listen to music, but it is very hard, please tell me what to do, and is it ok for me to listen and dance and have fun, well it is my wedding, but what will we dance on? Please help me with this.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Dear sister, may Allaah bless you and grant you a happy married life. Music is forbidden in Islam, so try your best to prevent playing music during your marriage celebration. You and your future husband have to be thankful to Allaah on His great blessings and facilitating this marriage. Being thankful to our Lord means following His commands and keeping away from all His prohibitions. So, dear sister, in order to receive Allaah's great blessings you should not start your married life with something which displeases Him.

As for dancing, it is allowed provided the conditions mentioned in our Fataawa: 84486 and 84246, are met.

We supplicate Allaah to pour His blessings upon you and make you steadfast on His true religion.

Allaah knows best.
