Question:

I would like to know about the prayer time, I had an argument with my husband that all Muslims has to pray 5 times a day and this the way we were taught by our parents, he travels all the time due to his work and he do combining and shortening of prayers, but when he is home for 3 or 4 days he still pray combining and shortening of prayers. Is this right for him to do it all the time? Please I need your reply for this matter.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Basically, one has to perform the prayers at their fixed times. However, Allaah, the Glorified and the Exalted, permitted the traveller to combine and shorten the prayers. The details are mentioned in our Fatwa: 83821.

Therefore, whenever a person is at his residence he cannot utilize the exemption granted to him while travelling.

Your husband has to perform complete prayers at their prescribed times whenever he enters in his city or where his family live since a person is not considered as a traveller in his city or in his home.

Allaah knows best.
