Mistakes in the Intention

Mistakes in the Intention

  • Some people change the intention after starting the rituals of Hajj or ‘Umrah. If the pilgrim intends to perform Hajj on behalf of himself, he will not be permitted to change his intention afterwards, like intending to perform Hajj on behalf of his father or mother.

  • Some pilgrims start the Hajj rituals and then abandon it without completing it. The correct manner, however, is that the person who intends to perform Hajj or ‘Umrah and assumes Ihraam (sacral state) is not permitted to leave without completing the rituals. Allah The Exalted Says (what means): {And complete the Hajj and ‘Umrah for Allah.} [Quran 2:196]

  • Some people think that the intention to perform Hajj or ‘Umrah is not made except within the Masjid (mosque) of the Meeqaat (the singular of Mawaaqeet: certain places from where pilgrims are required to put on their Ihraam) only.

This is a mistake. The correct view is that the pilgrim makes his intention at the Meeqaat or at any place which is adjacent to it if he is unable to assume Ihraam from the Meeqaat. This is confirmed by the scholars.
