Paradise is not a place for reproduction or giving birth

Question

Is there reproduction in Paradise? I mean will the wives and Hoor in Paradise give birth to children?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

As a matter of fact, Paradise is not a place for reproduction or giving birth. The women of Paradise are purified and free from all types of filth and impurity. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means), Describing them: {And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally.} [Quran 2:25]

Scholars of Tafseer said, “They are purified wives from answering the call of nature, urine, menstruation, pregnancy, post-partum bleeding, filth and all other kinds of impurities.

Additionally, young boys from the boys of Paradise will go around serving the people of Paradise so they are in no need for children or servants as Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls.} [Quran 76:19]

This is an agreed-upon fact. However, some scholars are of the opinion that nothing prevents having children for the one who likes so. This is proved by general and specific evidences such as the Saying of Allaah The Almighty (Which means):

· {And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally.} [Quran 43:17]

· {They will have whatever they wish therein, and with Us is more.} [Quran 50:35]

As for the Hadeeths, it was narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “If the believer in Paradise wishes for a child, then it will be conceived and delivered, and will grow to the desired age in an instant.” [Ahmad, Abu Daawood, An-Nasaa’i, At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah] [At-Tirmithi: Hasan] [Al-Albaani: Authentic]

At-Tirmithi said that scholars hold different views concerning this issue. Some of them said that in Paradise, there will be sexual intercourse, but there will be no children. That is also what Taawoos, Mujaahid and An-Nakha‘i said. He added that Al-Bukhari said about the following Hadeeth of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam: “If the believer in Paradise wishes for a child, then it will be conceived and delivered, and will grow to the desired age in an instant. However, he will not wish for that.” It was narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The People of Paradise will have no children in it.” The narration reported by Imaam Ahmad does not have: “However, he will not wish for that.

In conclusion, it becomes clear that there is no Sharee‘ah-related or logical impediment from having children in Paradise for those who like it. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And with Us is more.} [Quran 50:35]. It was narrated on the authority of Ibn Mas‘ood may Allaah be pleased with him that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “If anyone wishes to eat birds in Paradise, he will immediately find it in his hand grilled.” [Ahmad and An-Nasaa’i]

However, it can be also said that this is an exception because most of the people of Paradise will not wish to have children.

Allaah Knows best.
