Shortened Head Hair in Spots during Hajj and ‘Umrah

Question

I performed Hajj twice and Umrah several times I used to shortened my hair from some places in the head not from all the head. Do I have to do something now?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Scholars of Islam differ concerning the obligation of cutting all of one's head-hair in Hajj and 'Umrah.

Some scholars believe that it is obligatory to shorten all of the head-hair. Many scholars believe that it is sufficient to have cut some hair of the head.

We think that the first opinion is safer, since it is identical with the practice of Allah's Messenger sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ). It is a duty on every Muslim to learn the rulings of what he is going to do, for the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Seeking knowledge is a duty for every Muslim."

Anyway, as you have mentioned that you shortened your hair from some places of the head in your ‘Umrah and Hajj, then this in fact is correct according to many scholars such as Ash-Shaafi'i and Abu Haneefah.

But, it is safer and better for you to shorten the hair from all your head in the next Hajj and ‘Umrah.

Allah knows best.
