The name “Ghausia”

Question

My question is that I have a very unique name, Ghausia. I know it is derived from the name of the saint Ghaus Bab ul Haq, but I read somewhere that it has a poor meaning. I know that this often results in a bad effect on the person, but I'm perfectly fine. However, I want to know that do I need to change my name? It's served me well my entire life, and I've been told it means moonlight or as bright as the moon, I've always liked how unique it is and thus don't want to change it but at the same time, I also don't want it to affect me in any way.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It appears –Allaah Knows best –that it is permissible to be named with this name because it does not include a meaning that requires the prohibition of being named with it. Among the meanings of ‘Ghawth’ is help (succor) and it is as well a name of some Arab tribes.

Allaah Knows best.
