A magician may work out extraordinary acts

Question

Is it possible for a magician to bodily move from one country to another, i.e. to fly on palm branches for example?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam, is His slave and messenger.

Ibn Taymmiyah may Allaah have mercy upon him stated that many such magicians existed in his age and in past ages. A magician in Damascus was carried by Satan from the mountain called As-Saalihiyyah to a village near Damascus where he came through the window of a house whose inhabitants could see him. This magician also came at night towards the Gate of As-Sagheer in Damascus and he and his companions were recognized. Indeed, this magician was known to be one of the severest wrongdoers.

Ibn Taymmiyah may Allaah have mercy upon him stated in another place that devils bring to some magicians food, fruits, desserts etc which were not available in their time and place. Also, some magicians were carried by jinn to Makkah, Al-Quds or other places.

It is impermissible to believe that anyone who works out these extraordinary acts is a pious person supported by Allaah. Such extraordinary occurrences may happen to non-Muslims, polytheists and innovators; therefore a person should beware of them.

Allaah Knows best.
