A Hadeeth about treating women with honor

Question

Salam alaikum, I have recently read this: "A good man treats women with honor." (Tirmidhi) Do you know if this is an authentic hadith? Salam alaikum, NUha

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have not across a Hadeeh with this wording, neither in Sunan At-Tirmithi nor in any other books of Hadeeth. However, if you mean the Hadeeth which reads: “The best amongst yourselves are the best to their wives, and I am the best to my wives.”; then this is a Saheeh [sound] Hadeeth narrated on the authority of ‘Aa’ishah may Allaah be pleased with her and reported by At-Tirmithi, and it was also reported by Ibn Maajah on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him.

Indeed, many authentic Ahaadeeth were reported about the virtues of treating women (wives) in a good manner and this is something ordained by the Sharee’ah. Even the Quran mentioned this, as in the saying of Allaah (which means): {And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them — perhaps you dislike a thing and Allaah makes therein much good.} [Quran 4:19]

Allaah Knows best.
