Muslims tested in their graves

Question

Is a person tested in his grave after his death?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alyhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It was proven that after his death man will be tested in his grave by being questioned about his Lord, religion and Prophet. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Allaah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And Allaah sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allaah does what He wills.} [Quran 14: 27] It was reported on the authority of Al-Baraa’ may Allaah be pleased with him that the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, commented on this verse saying that Allaah The Almighty keeps the believer firm in his grave and provides him with the answer when he is questioned about his Lord, religion and prophet. [At-Tirmithi: Hasan Saheeh]

It was also reported that the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that this Ummah (nation) would be tested in the grave. He added that were it not for fear that we would stop burying our dead if we hear the torment of the grave that he hears, he would have certainly asked Allaah The Almighty to let us hear it. [Muslim]

We ask Allaah The Almighty to grant us firm speech and to make our graves a garden from the gardens of Paradise, not a hole from the holes of Hell.

Allaah Knows best.
