Seeking refuge with Allaah is required when devils are present

Question

Is it true that there is a devil or a Jinn in a black cat? Should we seek refuge with Allaah when we see it?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Devils assume the figure of black cats more than other figures. Therefore, one should seek refuge with Allaah when he sees them.

Seeking refuge with Allaah is required when devils are present or when entering places in which they exist, such as toilets. On the authority of Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered us to seek refuge with Allaah when we hear the braying of a donkey, because the donkey in such a case has seen a devil. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Allaah Knows best.
