Fearing a child’s corruption does not justify abortion

Question

There is a Muslim who lives in a Western country and is married to a Christian woman. His wife refuses Islam and does not even agree to bring up the child as a Muslim. Now, she is in her second week of pregnancy. Is it permissible to abort this child? It should be known that the country where he is living is a disbelieving country where corruption exceeds 100%. What is the solution?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Abortion is unlawful under the Sharee‘ah (Islamic law). It is one of the aspects of spreading mischief on earth and destroying crops and animals. These acts are forbidden in the Quran by Allaah The Almighty. Having a Christian mother or fearing the child’s corruption does not justify the abortion of a fetus. It is Allaah The Almighty who can guide and change the stances of the hearts as He wills. To know the detailed rulings of abortion, refer to Fatwa 82051.

Allaah Knows best.
